Loxodromes, Pond Hahnemühle German Etching Print

A "loxodrome" is a spiral on the surface of a sphere that meets every longitude at the same non-perpendicular angle. Loxodromes and logarithmic spirals correspond under stereographic projection from a pole, and play comparable tricks on the eye when rotated about their centers. Mathematically, loxodromes wind infinitely many times around the north pole and south pole, but have finite total arc length.
